Can kraft paper tape be recycled?

Article provenance:未知 Popularity:Time:2023-01-22 22:12
Kraft paper tape can be recycled, because as long as its base material is made of paper or degradable materials, of course, not all types of tape currently popular in the market. For example: BOPP transparent tape, PVC tape, PET tape, etc

However, this does not mean that you can completely solve the problem only by putting the tape in the recycling bin - usually each country and region classifies the tape according to the type of tape and the requirements of the local recycling center.

Now let's introduce recyclable kraft paper tape, other environmental alternatives and ways to avoid waste of tape.

There are several kinds of recyclable or biodegradable tapes to choose from. Of course, their base material is made of paper and natural adhesive instead of plastic.

Wet kraft paper tape, also known as water-based kraft paper tape (WAT), is usually made of paper material and water-based chemical adhesive.

Some people may be familiar with this type of adhesive tape, but most people do not even know it - generally in export packaging or foreign large online retailers often use this type of adhesive tape.

As its name suggests, the wet kraft paper tape needs water to activate its glue to produce stickiness, just as we use an old stamp.

Generally, the wet kraft paper tape must be placed in a customized tape cutter. The cutter is used to wet the adhesive surface to make it sticky (although some retailers also provide home version, you can use sponge to wet it).

After use, the wet kraft paper tape will be clean or torn and will not leave sticky residue on the box.

There are two types of wet kraft paper tape WAT:

Non-reinforced and reinforced wet kraft paper tape.

The former is used for transporting and packaging lighter objects.

Wet water reinforced kraft paper tape reinforced WAT, embedded with glass fiber strands, makes it more difficult to tear, and can withstand heavier loads.

The paper on the wet water reinforced kraft paper tape WAT can still be recycled, but the glass fiber component is filtered out during the recycling process.

Self-adhesive kraft paper tape is another recyclable option. It is also made of kraft paper, but it uses natural rubber adhesive or synthetic rubber adhesive.

Like wet kraft paper tape, it also has non-reinforced and reinforced types, but it only needs to be packaged with ordinary tape. Generally, it does not need to use a customized tape cutter.

If any of these kraft paper tapes are used, just add them to the normal recycling bin for recycling.

Remember, small pieces of adhesive tape, like small pieces of paper and shredded paper, may not be recycled because they may accumulate and damage the equipment. Rather than take the tape out of the box and try to recycle it, it is better to fix it for recycling.

New technologies also open the door to biodegradation and more environmentally friendly options.

Cellulose adhesive tape has been sold in some markets. In 2013, an innovative self-adhesive adhesive tape based on plant starch was developed.

According to the researchers, the application of the new product includes commercial adhesive, medical tape and biomedical electrode. After 42 days in the soil test, the material is completely biodegradable.

Most of the discarded tapes have been glued to other things, such as cardboard boxes or a piece of paper.

The recycling process will filter out adhesive tape, labels, staples and similar materials, so a reasonable amount of adhesive tape can usually complete the whole process well.

However, in these cases, there is a problem. In this process, the plastic tape is filtered out and dumped. Therefore, although it can be in the recycling bins in most cities, it will not be recycled into new materials.

Usually, too much tape on the box or paper will cause sticky blockage in the recycling machine.

According to the equipment of the recycling center, even too much paper tape (such as masking tape) will cause the entire package to be thrown away without the risk of blocking the machine.

For example, San Francisco in the United States requires you to take out all the tapes from the cardboard box, while Napa, located in the north for more than an hour, requires you to take out as many tapes as possible.
